Toyama Food ♥

Photobucket
The other day, I got a call from Kikyo-san, who works at overseas sales center of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Along with Aoki-san, who works at the tourism division of the Toyama Prefectural Government and another lady working at the Alpine Route, we went for dinner and they introduced me to a variety of delicious food, especially some particular to the Toyama prefecture!

Now I am absolutely in love with kuro-zukuri, raw squid (and its internal organs) mixed with salt and its ink. Don’t judge by the description, it’s utterly delectable! Also, it turned out that Kikyo-san would be accompanying me along the route up to Murodo. Hurray, no more #aloneinthemountains!

Photobucket
Shiro-ebi, “white shrimp”.
It got its name as even when fried/boiled/grilled, it does not turn red like other shrimp, but instead remains white! And it is delicious! ♥

Photobucket
Bamboo shoot appetizers, I love bamboo!

Photobucket
Sashimi mori awase, an assortment of sashimi.
Shiro-ebi tastes delightfully sweet when raw~!

Photobucket
Kuro-zukuri (黒づくり), raw squid with squid ink.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! ♥♥♥

Photobucket
Yakitori of all parts of chicken: Fillet, breast, skin, internal organs!

Photobucket
Himi beef ♥
There’s Kobe beef from Kobe, and this is Himi beef from Himi.
Delicious!

Photobucket
Umeshu, wonderfully sweet and it tastes like juice! ♥

Another type of shiokara, can’t remember the name, but it’s basically kuro-zukuri without the squid ink, and slightly saltier!

Photobucket
What do you think this is?
I thought it was fish roe, but…

Photobucket
It’s “sea-grapes” (direct translation of Japanese name).
It’s a plant that grows in the sea like seaweed^^
The sensation of the "grapes" popping in your mouth as you chew on them is fun~ :D

Photobucket
Nattou wrapped in seaweed, dip it in the sauce.
Delicious and sweet!
And no stringy stuff typical of when eating nattou^^

Photobucket
Cream & crab croquette, creamy and delicious!

Photobucket
Pickled eggplant, slightly sweet and not sour~

Photobucket
Yaki-onigiri...and second serving of kuro-zukuri! ♥

Photobucket
Happily eating away the kuro-zukuri! ♥

Photobucket
Omu-soba, the egg was well-cooked, soft fluffy and yummy! ♥

Photobucket
More kuro-zukuri! And sake in a pretty bottle and cups~ ♥

So, if you're ever in Toyama or around the region, do try some of these out! Especially kuro-zukuri and shiro-ebi, they are insanely scrumptious~♥

Okay it's 4 in the morning and I'm behind on sleep^^ I probably won't be updating detailed stuff and photos till after I get back. I'm not sure when they'll put it up, but you can check out JNTO Singapore's page for the posts I've been emailing them every night I'm here (:
