Gmarket FAQ - a compilation of questions

Here's a compilation of questions I've received regarding ordering/processes of Gmarket which I thought would be useful to everyone, so I'm compiling and posting them here!

GACCOUNT

Hi Kris, If possible, could you please explain what the purpose of the mileages are?
Mileage is like bonus points you can collect, and once you reach 10,000 mileage, you can exchange them for Gcash, which you can exchange for cash balance. So 10,000 mileage points can be converted to 10,000won of cash balance (:

[Under Gaccount, click the Mileage>>Gcash button, followed by Gcash>>Cash Balance]

However you can only do the exchanging of mileage in exact denominations of 10,000.

-----------------------------------------------------

How do you get to Gmarket VIP status?\
You can get VIP status by accumulating 50 credit points~

When you first sign up you get 5 credit points, and you'll get 1 for every item you purchase from Gmarket. When you become a VIP customer you'll see a crown logo and "VIP Customer" beside your username on the My Gmarket page.

Gmarket is planning to update their VIP program in late Jan 2011, shall update more at (Gmarket Tips #1 - GAccount) when that happens.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Kris (: I've notice this new label under the GAccount called "bookcash". What is it? Is it like Cash Balance?
Yepp, bookcash is like Cash Balance, but it can only be used to purchase items in the Books/CDs/DVDs category. And like Cash Balance, it can only be used if the amount of Bookcash you have is greater than the full sum of what you are purchasing (ie overseas shipping cost included).

Hence for now it is probably more useful/applicable to people residing in Korea as they do not need to pay overseas shipping cost ^^

Like mileage and Gstamps, the amount of Bookcash to be given with an item is dependent on the seller. Some offer 10% bookcash of cost of item, others 5%, others a flat amount of 2,000won etc. And sometimes there are bonus bookcash like purchase above 40,000won worth of items from the Books/CDs/DVDs category and get extra 2,000won bookcash etc.

Bookcash is valid for 3 years from date of receipt unless otherwise stated. (Some say valid for 1 month or other durations, you can check your bookcash record on Gmarket.)

-----------------------------------------------------

I've spent over 50,000won the last month, how come I can't get the Shopping Support rewards?
The condition for "this month" refers to the current month, not the duration of the month that just passed. Say you want to draw the Shopping Support rewards for March. You have to have spent over 50,000won in the current month of March. It doesn't matter if you've spent 700,000won on February 28, the 50,000won has to be spent in MARCH (:

-------------------------------------------------------------

PAYMENT/CREDIT CARD ISSUES

I can't seem to pay the additional shipping cost :( I don't have enough cash balance, so I tried buying Gcash, but I get a message saying Gcash is no longer available to be purchased. So I tried using VISA. But I keep getting a pop-up saying "The corresponding card number is not verified. Please apply for foreign credit card verification." I didn't even key in any card number, and according to Gmarket VISA and MASTER cards don't require registration. This is frustrating and I want my order to be shipped out soon...
What browser are you using? Gmarket is optimized for IE, anything up to IE8 should work. But I think there might be problems with IE9. This happened to me before too, I was using IE9 and got the same message. But it worked fine with Firefox, when I clicked the same button, instead of that annoying message I went to the page to enter CC details. This is even though I've never been able to pay with Firefox before. I think it's a result of Gmarket's recent system updates, so just try your luck on different browsers!

-----------------------------------------------------

I have a certain amount in my Cash Balance, but the cost of my order is just a few cents above. I know it's due to the estimated shipping! :( Is there anyway to change the estimated weight or transfer Cash Balance to my CC?

You could try inquiring to the seller or Gmarket Customer service, to ask them whether they can adjust the weight for you. They usually will if it's within reason.

Alternatively, you could purchase a few dollars worth of Gcash to convert to Cash Balance so that you'll have enough to pay (: However you will be charged a 5% processing fee to convert purchased Gcash to Cash Balance so do take note.

There is a service available to withdraw your Cash Balance to a bank account, but you will be charged USD35 to transfer to a non-Korean bank account, and it'll take 15~20 working days to process, so I guess it's not that worth it...? There's no option to transfer to CC.

-----------------------------------------------------

Did you use credit card to pay for it? For a credit card payment, I’ll need to select the option to pay by foreign credit card right? Is it safe and cheaper than Paypal, cos when I Googled, most of the people use Paypal. Since I’ve not made any online purchase using Paypal or credit card before, I just want to be sure of the procedure. ^^

Is the exchange rate cheaper by using credit card as compared to Paypal? Hmm.. for the excess shipping fee, will they credit back to my Gaccount, or will they put into my credit card bank account or Paypal?

I've never used Paypal so can't comment on that, but I would think credit card is pretty safe, at least for my bank there's extra security stuff, after keying in credit card details they'll text you a password to your phone, and you have to key it in to complete the purchase ^^ Gmarket is a legitimate site so you don't have to worry about getting scammed or charged extra ^^

As for cheaper, there are no extra fees or extra charges other than what you check out from Gmarket. (Does Paypal have fees? Cos I always hear of people having to pay Paypal fees when they use it, not sure for Gmarket ^^) Exchange rate depends on your bank, but most banks have better exchange rates than Paypal (:

As for excess shipping fees, they'll credit it back to your Gaccount in the form of Cash Balance, regardless of how you paid for your order. However you can only use your Cash Balance to pay for stuff if the amount in your Cash Balance is greater than the full sum of you're buying (ie no partial payments). But refunds for when your items goes OOS/cancellations by seller will go back to your credit card (if you used credit card to pay) (:

-----------------------------------------------------

Every time I try to pay I keep getting an error -344 message saying my order's been cancelled. Why can't I pay?

Most of the time this error is gotten by people who use Firefox, Opera, Chrome as their browsers, and can be easily solved by using IE. Gmarket, like many other Korean websites, are best used with Internet Explorer, so try paying with Internet Explorer. You probably will be able to get your order through (:

-----------------------------------------------------

CANCEL/REFUND/RETURN

Hi, I've ordered an item that I no longer want anymore. The status of that item is currently "Domestic on Delivery". Can I cancel it? If yes, does the amount paid get refunded?
Yes you still can, but you should do it asap. It will not be a considered cancel, but a return, which cannot be done anymore once the status reaches "Domestic Delivered". Go to My Gmarket>>Cancel/Exchange>>Apply>>Select your order and item and click "Return".

You will be refunded the cost of the item (to cash balance), but you have to bear the cost of the return/domestic delivery to seller. And you will lose credit points.

-----------------------------------------------------

How do I cancel an item? It's been 2 weeks and the seller hasn't shipped it out, I don't want to keep waiting for it anymore, it's holding up my shipment! Do I have to pay extra costs for cancelling? Will they refund it to my CC or GAccount? Thanks!
You can only cancel an item if it has not been shipped out by the seller (ie "On Request"). There is no extra cost for this, you just lose credit points (amount varies with price of item). Go to My Gmarket>>Cancel/Refund>>Apply and select the order/item you want to cancel.

However, once the seller has shipped it out ("Domestic on Delivery") you can only do a return, for which you must bear the return cost to the seller. You will also lose credit points for this.

You will be refunded the item amount to your GAccount in the form of Cash Balance. (: Refunds to Credit Card are only done if it's the seller who cancels the item. (From what I've experienced!) If you yourself cancel the item, the amount will be refunded to Cash Balance.

----------------------------------------------------

My item's GMarket status has been "On Request" for so long, I'm sick of waiting! :[ What do I do to expedite the process or is there any way to find out when the seller will ship it out?
You could try inquiring to the seller (click the "Inquiry" button on the item page, it's below the options, in the minishop/about seller box!). Ask them when they'll ship or if they can send it by some date or whatever you want to ask? A lot of sellers might not understand English so you could either A) write in proper English so that they'll get an accurate translation when they use a translator or B) use a translator yourself and paste the translated chunk there along with the English in case they do understand English.

Since your item's still "On Request" after a long time, probably the seller still has intentions to send it, cos otherwise the Gmarket overseas system automatically cancels for you if they do not hear from the seller for a long time.

If you do not want to wait anymore, you could apply to cancel the item, and the amount will be refunded to cash balance/credit card without extra charges. (I don't know about PayPal, I've only ever used VISA or cash balance to pay for Gmarket ^^)

-----------------------------------------------------------

OVERSEAS SHIPPING

Hi, I was wondering, does Gmarket help to declare goods at a lesser value? Do we need to "instruct" them them to do so? Cos my country would normally tax for items above a certain value.
From what I've noticed Gmarket would usually list 3~4 items on the declaration sheet, but I never really noticed whether they declared lesser/higher/equal value... They declare in USD.

However if you're worried you could try contacting Gmarket directly via Help>>Contact Us>>Shipping>>Contact Us, they usually reply inquiries really quickly (:

-----------------------------------------------------

What's the difference between DPD shipping and EMS shipping? Is it safe?
DPD is usually just a dollar or so cheaper than EMS (to Singapore), so since it's just one buck I'd suggest you just choose EMS because A) EMS is faster, and B) EMS has updated real-time tracking so you'll always know it's whereabouts, ie it can't be "lost". DPD is slower, and takes usually around 5 working days. EMS packages reach my doorstep on average 2 days after Gmarket sends it out. Although DPD has tracking as well, it's not updated very quickly. So if you're like me who need to plan to have someone in the house for when the delivery man comes, only EMS can provide up-to-date timings. (See Gmarket Tips #3 on Tracking). However, if you live in a house where someone's always at home to receive the parcel (maid, parents, siblings etc), then this would not be of concern to you ^^

Also, if it's been a while and you're wondering where your parcel is, for EMS the status is updated quickly so it's easy to track. For DPD, people have complained that even though they've been told by Gmarket/delivery company that the parcel has reached their country, the tracking system has not been updated. So you really won't know where your package is until it reaches your doorstep.

I would say that DPD is quite safe, because delivery in/to Singapore generally can be trusted. Everything will be packed well, no mishandling either. But it all depends on your personal preference (: If you don't mind waiting a few more days and/or if there's always someone at home to receive the parcel, then DPD should be fine.

-----------------------------------------------------------

MISCELLANEOUS

I've never ordered from Gmarket before, so I wanna know, is Gmarket legit?
Well, Gmarket is a registered company, and it is the leading e-commerce business in South Korea, with over 10million registered users. It was recently acquired by Ebay.
However, unlike Ebay, you do not pay the seller directly, rather you pay to Gmarket, and Gmarket pays the seller. So you most likely will not encounter a scenario of a seller running away with your money as if the seller takes to long to ship the item, Gmarket will cancel the order for you and refund you the money.

-----------------------------------------------------

This list will be updated as more questions come in (: I'll try to help if I can, but I have no experience using Paypal so I probably can't help you with questions about that!

  1. Hi gal, have you gotton the shopping rewards before I ordered more than 50 000won on 1 May and was told that i do not meet the event condition

    ReplyDelete
  2. @Anonymous ♥

I got that message too...not including international shipping, I got 36,330won of stuff on 1 May and another 38,500won on 3 May, total 74,830won not including int'l shipping, yet when I click it says I don't meet the condition :/ But I do know of people who have. Perhaps it needs to complete/be on domestic shipping before you can get it?

I managed to get it this morning at 930am (: perhaps you could try again? Maybe the system needs time to tally/check your total purchased amount^^

  4. Thanks very much for sharing all your FAQs! It makes shopping at Gmarket so much easier!

OMG I can't believe that the shopping support rewards works like that! I've purchased nearly 1,000,000 Won of products in the past 2 months, and I'm really shocked when I read your entry about the shopping support rewards *sobs*

Did you receive shopping support rewards this month? Does that mean that the next time I want to buy stuff from gmarket, i should place my order before 10am on the 1st of July to be able to receive the shopping support rewards?

  5. @Tiffy ♥

You're welcome! A lot of people don't realize that shopping on Gmarket isn't that hard hehe (:

I didn't buy anything yesterday so I'm not eligible for June's shopping support rewards (SSR)^^ I was able to receive the SSR for May though, after waiting a couple of days.

However I do recall reading somewhere that you can only receive SSR once every 3 months? Not too sure about that. But SSR can only give up to 10% off per item, and not all items can apply the SSR, so 50,000won worth of SSR can probably last you awhile (:

Yepp, if you really want to get the SSR, you should place your orders on the 1st of July^^ But you may only be able to receive it on the 2nd or 3rd of July, as I think the system is a tad slow.

SSR doesn't run out that fast though, so placing orders within the first few days of July should still be fine (: You can probably even get the SSR for June if you place an order now!

    Hope that helps!

  6. @Kris

Thanks again for the comprehensive example of your SSR. Unfortunately I couldn't get it again this month (TT_TT). I placed an order of more than 50,000 Won yesterday night and i tried my luck again at SSR but i couldn't get it. I wasn't expecting it to get it though, since the message clearly said: "Available to receive at 10am on the 1st day of every month".

The 50,000 Won worth of 10% voucher still sounds tempting nevertheless, since i'll be making lotsa purchases again from Gmarket in the future. Lol~

I will try my luck again on 1st July!! :D

Oh and btw, just wanna confirm if we're on the same page... I purchased my items from english.gmarket.co.kr .Are you referring to this Gmarket too? I've just found out that there's Gmarket.com.sg ,presumable a sister site?

    ReplyDelete
  8. @Tiffy

Yupp, everything I refer to is gmarket.co.kr, the original Korean one (: Other than sg there's gmarket for id (Indonesia), my (Malaysia) and jp (Japan) as far as I know^^

Hmmm, the SSRs aren't out of stock yet so they should still be available? Last month I made my purchase on the night of May 2, but I was only able to successfully draw the SSR on the morning of May 4 after repeatedly getting the "do not meet conditions" message many times in between.

Perhaps you just need to wait another day or two before trying again (:

  9. well, i order from Gmarket Korea. i don't have a credit card or a debit card so i topped up my Paypal account using my bank acc. however, when i chose Paypal Express Checkout, they asked me to link a debit/credit card to my account. what should i do? my family really can't afford to have a credit card.

    ReplyDelete
  10. @Anonymous

Sorry, I've never used PayPal for Gmarket so I really don't know anything about it. As far as I know, at least where I live, it does not cost anything to get a debit card. Working like an ATM card, it deducts only from what you have in your account, but can be used like a credit card for online transactions or being signature-operated in physical stores.

Try asking a friend to order for you? I have no experience using Paypal for Gmarket so I really can't help you regarding that!^^

  11. Hi Kris!

So I ordered some clothes and a pair of shoes from gmarket like 2 weeks ago, last friday they said everything had finally arrived. However my order still hasn't been shipped out. Is there a particular reason for this or is GMarket just slow when it comes to shipping internationally? (I live in Canada btw)

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Anonymous ♥

Hi (: What does the status in red say? Do you need to pay extra shipping costs or anything? Have they weighed the item? Usually, after all items are delivered, they'll weigh the package, showing you the estimated weight and actual weight at the bottom of the page.

If the actual weight is greater than the estimated, you need to pay the extra shipping before they'll proceed). If it's equal to or less, they'll put "additional cost paid, your order will be sent overseas" and they'll post it by the next working day (: (and refund the excess shipping to your cash balance.

    ♥ Karisa

    ReplyDelete
  13. It says additional cost paid D: they overestimated by like 2000 won and put that in my balance on saturday. It's been 3 business days here and 4 in Korea now so I'm not really sure what's happening now. Should I contact GMarket or wait till the end of the week? And thanks for responding so quickly. :)

  14. @Anonymous ♥

Ohh um, I just went to the Gmarket site and saw this notice:

    "Closed Shipping Service to Canada.

We are sorry to tell you this but EMS shipping service to Canada has closed until further notice due to Canada Post union strikes.

If you've got EMS tracking no. on 13th June, you are available to cancel the order. To do that please contact our customer service center.

We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this situation is causing and we hope this issue will be resolved as soon as possible."

I think you've got to wait till the strikes end or contact customer service for more information! :(

Hey dear, the screenshot shows that the package went back to 동수원 (Dongsuwon, a place in Seoul, South Korea) on 25th June. I believe that it was sent back to Gmarket HQ as 동수원 (Dongsuwon) is where they usually ship out from.

I suggest you contact customer service on whether they can hold the items for you until the strike is over then resend it or whether you can pay them to FedEx it over or what kind solutions they may have^^ Because with the postal strike still ongoing in Canada, no postal workers are available in Canada to deliver your package :(

  18. Thank you so much for the help. But, what if they didn't hold it .. are they going to refund me or what? I mean it's the costumer mistake since I can't do anything?
even if they refund me, they wont refund the shipping .. ?

    again, Thank you

  19. @ Anonymous

With regard to that, I'm not too sure as I've never encountered such a situation before. The best would really be to contact Gmarket directly as ask about your options^^ It's not really either side's fault but rather due to circumstances, so you might have to compromise.

  20. I submit my msg and sent an email but which is better to wait or call them? sorry that am asking you alot :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ Anonymous

Since it's the weekend and they don't work on weekends, I'm not sure if anyone will pick up the line if you call.

For the messages/email, you'll probably get an answer only on Monday as well.

You can also try posting on their Facebook page but don't think they'll reply till Monday either.

So either way I think you have to wait till Monday/Tuesday^^

but there are so many green ones and I got confused between stock 197 or stock 193 http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=202612841&pos_shop_cd=EN&pos_class_cd=90000003&pos_class_kind=T , if you can help me to know which one is it, I would be very thankful ...

  25. Hello, I'd like to ask something ^^
Say, I order from two different sellers in gmarket, can I ask a request to gmarket to just combine them into one box (like, no smaller boxes inside)?

Also, another situation. Let's say I'd want to order an album that comes along with a poster. Can gmarket ship the small box of the album with the poster tube taped around the box?

It's because I tried ordering from gmarket once and there were two different sellers so there were two boxes inside the very big box (which is due to the poster tube being put inside) that it got hold up in the customs and i had to pay for it at an expensive price. :(

I really hope you can help :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Rima ♥
Hey dear, I don't think it's possible^^ Because when different sellers ship, all Gmarket does is to collect all shipments addressed to you and fit them all into a larger box to send to you.

If not they'd have to open all the smaller boxes, take out your items and repack them, which is time consuming given the number of orders they get per day. Also, some people may not be comfortable with the idea of their stuff being handled, and disputes may arise if items are found to be missing.

Even if it's just one box, I think Gmarket would need to put your items in a different box, because of shipping invoice/declaration. From the seller to Gmarket, the box would already have a domestic shipment notice on it.

Gmarket can't just use that same box, paste an EMS invoice on top of the old notice and send it to you. Hence they have to put it in another box.

If you're worried about the poster taking up space, some sellers have the option of it being packed folded instead of a tube. Or you could leave a note to the seller requesting this?

If you wanna order more, after adding the first 5, go back to the listing page and add again (: It should work unless the store owner imposes a maximum per ID per day or something! (:

  31. hello,

Great blog! Would be great to get some advice about shopping in Gmarket!

I'm located in Singapore and would like to purchase some items from korean Gmarket.

I understand there's the worldwide combined shipping service for overseas orders, but i'm a little confused about the domestic and overseas tabs... i have an item from nature republic, but as they do not provide international shipping, the item remains in the domestic order tab in my shopping cart.

I thought since Gmarket is the one packing my combined orders and sending it to me, it should not matter if the individual sellers do not provide international shipping? Also, does that mean i should keep all my orders under domestic (in shopping cart), and later apply for overseas shipping? But domestic orders do not show the overseas shipping cost... Also, at which stage should i be making payment? Sorry for these many queries as it's my first attempt to buy stuff from korean Gmarket.

Would be great if you could help!

    Thanks a million!!

  32. Hello
    Great Blog
Yesterday and today, i try to buy some stuff from Gmarket but when i press " Place an order" button. It's did't work. And I can't buy the stuff. Can you help me???
    Thanks
    Tony

  33. @Anonymous
Gmarket can only ship you orders if they are in the international cart, as some sellers do not want to sell their products to overseas customers, maybe because they have branches overseas or for other reasons. For domestic shipping you need a Korean address. If you really want to get items from stores that do not ship overseas, your best bet is to ship to a friend residing in Korea and ask them to post it to you^^ So, if you want to order anything from Gmarket and receive it in Singapore, you can only order items that ship internationally^^ Payment is made when you checkout (: You pay an estimated shipping fee, then when Gmarket weighs the items before shipping it out they will state the actual fee. If the estimate is above they'll refund you in the form of cash balanace; if it's below and the difference is greater than 5,000won, you need to pay before they'll ship it out. If the difference is less than 5,000won they'll ship first and you can top-up later. HTHs!

    @Tony
Try using Internet Explorer? If it really doesn't work perhaps you could try asking Gmarket Customer Service for some help^^

  34. hey! so i ordered 22 items last wednesday on the 3rd. After a couple of days of waiting 20/22 items have been "delivered" to Gmarket but 2 items (both from the same seller and the same items but in different color) has been"on delivery" for a long time (since last week until yesterday) but when I checked today, it said "N/A", what does that mean?? Has it been canceled? by the seller or by Gmarket?? If it was "on delivery" the entire time then doesn't it mean that it is somewhere there on its way to the Gmarket warehouse? :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. ALSO, when I checked in My Gmarket>Overseas Order, i only see 20 items on the list! The other two items are not there anymore :( And under the "overseas shipping status" it says "additional cost paid", so is everything done? Are they going to send it out internationally soon?? But I also got a notice that i have 14,160 won in my "cash balance" is that the amount that i have to pay because the actual shipping fee was over the estimated or it is that the amount that was given because the actual shipping fee is less than the estimated shipping fee? How can I know if the actual shipping fee is over or under? THank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Gmarket4ever
If you have "additional cost paid" it means Gmarket is about to ship it to you. The other 2 items probably got cancelled? Try checking under cancellations/refunds.

Cash balance is where excess shipping gets refunded to. This means the actual shipping fee is lower than the estimated fee, so Gmarket refunds it to you under cash balance.

If the actual shipping fee is under, you will see "additional shipping cost paid". If actual shipping fee is higher, the status will ask you to pay the difference.

    ♥ Karisa

lol the other post wasn't that specific :P
I mean can I re-order the same exact items and get it to ship here together with the other items (combined shipping)?

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Gmarket4ever
Hi (: The payment for the cancelled items will be refunded to the method you paid with.

If you reorder the 2 items they won't be shipped with your other 20 items because the 20 items have already started their international shipping process.

You can only combine shipping with another order until before all items reach the warehouse, meaning that if you see "additional shipping cost paid" as the status, you cannot combine shipping with that order anymore.

You could re-order the other 2 items, but it would be considered another order and you cannot ship it together with your previous order. HTHs!

And when will I be listed as "silver"?

I think you can only use the "new" coupon on your second order onward. Your membership will be upgraded once the 1st of the next month comes along, ie 1st September (: HTHs!

  43. 1) After I post reviews on my last purchased items I’ll get mileages and gstamps right?
    2) How long does it take to receive those? I read somewhere that it takes 5-7 days to receive mileages/gstamps after I write a review?? Is that true?
    3) And does every review on one item equal to one gstamp and exactly 100 mileages?

    Another kind of question kekekekekkk!:
    1) Last wednesday I made a purchase (22 items) and everything except two items (which are the same items but in different color) arrived to Gmarket warehouse last weekend. And Gmarket canceled those two items since it was taking too long and just got the message from Gmarket about the cancellation this wednesday.
So my question is, when or how long does it take to get my money back because I still haven’t?
I always ask Gmarket by sending them a message but their answers always make no sense (not the english, but they just don’t really… have straight forward answers, I feel like I’m reading a computer’s answer)
    2) And under the “cancel/return/exchange” the two cancelled items are there so it is cancelled right? Under the “returned status” it says, “transaction cancelled” and under “details” it says “cancelled partially (card)”, what does that mean?
    3) And where does the money go back to? To my bank or to my Gmarket account? If so, in Gcash or Cash Balance? I read that it goes to Gcash on other blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Gmarket4ever
    1) Yes you will.
    2) It's immediate. You'll see your mileage and gstamp numbers updated after finishing the review.
    3) 1 review = 1 Gstamp + up to 100 mileage. Generally, 1,000won of product worth=10mileage. But it caps at 100 mileage. So a 20,000won item still gives you 100 mileage and not 200.

    1) I do not know how long it will take.
    2) It means the item has been cancelled and refunded to your card.
    3) As mentioned in the above FAQ under the Cancel/Refund/Return section, if the cancellation was not done by you, the refund will go back to however you paid; credit card if you paid by card, cash balance if you paid by cash balance.

What I am trying to put across is that I did not pay for the additional shipping fees of 4,410won and Gmarket showed that I had paid and apparently had also shipped the items out. Any idea what is going on here ? Also, how do I pay off the -4,410won ? I could not find any ways to pay through CC (Mastercard) or paypal.

How to remove this -4,410won from my gaccount ? Cannot seems to pay it through paypal or credit card. :(

  47. @John
    Hi,
If the difference between actual and estimated weight is less than 5,000won, Gmarket will ship the item to you anyway. So the status will be "additional cost paid" even though you yourself did not pay for it.

I'm not sure if/how you pay for it. My guess is that whenever you accumulate cash balance from future refunds or etc, it will offset the negative. You do not have to pay it immediately now (:

    ReplyDelete
  48. On the GMarket site it says, "At this time, if your paid shipping cost is greater than the actual shipping fee,
the difference will be deposited to your Gaccount (Cash Balance)."

Since I only plan to make one purchase from gMarket (a Gabalnara wig, hopefully they ship internationally), can't i just get the money refunded to my Credit Card? I really don't want it to stay in the GAccount!

The shipping excess always only gets refunded back to cash balance...as it has been for the past few years. Gmarket had mentioned that they would be working to change this or something, but I guess it hasn't happened yet!

Usually it takes around a week+ after they put up the notice before they send the gift cert. They'll usually send you an email titled "Hey, Top Blogger" with details on how to activate it/convert to cash balance etc. You'd also see it appear in your G-account beside "gift certif" (:

You'd best contact Gmarket's customer service.

Exchanges for overseas are pretty troublesome I think, you'd have to bear the cost of shipping the item back to Korea and shipping for the new item from Korea to you.

Did the seller ship the wrong color or do you just want to change colors? Either way, I have no experience with returning orders or exchanging items^^

  56. Hi,
I just placed my order yesterday on Gmarket.. I saw many people were saying that they need to pay additional shipping fees and I read that I need to purchase the Gcash in Gaccount. Eventhough up till now I haven't got any info regarding the actual weight of my order, I've been trying to purchase Gcash, just in case I need to pay for the additional fee.
However, when I clicked "Purchase Gcash", it says that Gcash is no longer available to purchase and "You can only exchange to Gcash when your Gmileage is 10,000".
Can you help me about this since I can only pay with paypal..what should I do about it?
    Thank you before :)

  57. @Anonymous
Gcash has not been available to be purchased for quite a long time already. I'm not sure how it works for PayPal, but so far when I needed to pay additional shipping fees I've been able to use CC to pay the difference, no need for purchasing Gcash. I'm guessing the same should be applicable to PayPal?

If you have any additional shipping to be paid, you'll know after all your items arrive at the warehouse and Gmarket weighs your package, and there'll be a button for you to "Pay additional shipping now" or something like that. You should be able to use the same method you used to pay for the order originally?

Usually Gmarket cancels your items automatically if like a week has passed and they haven't heard from the seller/ the seller hasn't shipped out the items.

  63. Hi,

I made an order from Gmarket few weeks ago, and the actual weight was actually more than estimated one. So the additional shipping fees was 4,900 won. Fortunately, they didn't charge me for additional shipping fee and sent my order (which I received today). And then, I checked my Gaccount and the cash balance shows -4900. I just wondering why it shows like that and do i need to pay 4900 won to Gmarket or something? I am new to Gmarket so I don't fully understand of this kind of thing >.< Thanks before :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. @Anonymous ♥
If the additional shipping fee's less than 5,000won, you do not have to pay immediately. The amount will be deducted in the future/next order, eg future excess shipping fee refunded to your cash balance will offset the -4,900won (: Or so from what I've experienced.

And they asked me to update my mobile number through ibanking. I've updated my mobile number in ibanking but the same problem still occurs :\

I think you should contact your bank regarding this as the problem seems to be card/bank account issues...

When I pay by credit card (VISA) for online transactions, for every transaction I make there will be an OTP sent to my mobile phone. I then have to key in this OTP on the website I'm buying from to verify/confirm the transaction.

Is your number keyed in correctly? Cos usually they'll send a message to the number you gave, saying you've successfully registered your number or something like that...

It depends on the individual sellers, whether they offer overseas shipping.

Gmarket.co.kr is the original Gmarket site, based in Korea and ship globally. However, all other Gmarket sites (eg SG, MY, ID, JP etc) are mostly for their local market, but some sellers do ship overseas. It is up to the discretion of the seller.

I'm not too familiar with the the SG gmarket, but I do not think they offer a consolidate-all-items and ship together option to other countries, unlike the KR one...

    @It's me ♥
Depends on how long the individual sellers take to ship out the item to Gmarket HQ, cos some sellers are quick to process orders, whilst others take their time for international orders. Domestic delivery (seller to Gmarket HQ) takes about 1~2 business days after the seller ships out. After Gmarket HQ consolidates everything and ships your package out by EMS, it'll usually reach your doorstep within 2~3 business days.

The email address is easily available on the Help page on Gmarket. However, Customer Service is more likely to respond to messages sent via the Enquiry form, link also located on the Help page, right under the email address or via the "Contact Us" button.

Your best bet is the Enquiry form, they usually respond pretty quick during working hours.

If your item is "on delivery" then it definitely won't get cancelled :)

Yepp, the status in the image says 배송완료, and the location is an overseas EMS shipment facility in Sinsuwon (probably Gmarket HQ).

For the status you see on the Gmarket page ("on delivery" "delivery completed" etc), that is updated by Gmarket. Sometimes, after the last item comes in they take longer to update cos they want to start packing all your items first then they can update the overseas shipment status together with the completed domestic delivery for all items :)

So no, your item will definitely not get cancelled since it's already on domestic delivery/completed domestic delivery. Just give a few days for gmarket to weigh/update :)

      Hope that helps!

"Addressee" refers to the person to whom the package is addressed to, ie *you*. Delivery failed due to absence of addressee = they couldn't deliver because you were not at home to receive it. It happened because when the delivery guy went to deliver to your address, you were not around to receive the package. Since they advise you to pick it up, you should check with your post office/mailman :)

-If the item is out of stock after you have bought it/paid for it, it will be cancelled by the seller and you will be refunded to your credit card, provided that you paid for your order by credit card. If you paid by PayPal, you will be refunded to PayPal.
-Stock issues vary from seller to seller, and also depends on the item. Popular items sell out fast, and restocking is unpredictable/depends on seller.
